I'm documenting the build of the MASLOW 4 CNC Router and modifications that will make it even more awesome.
SPINDLE UPGRADE
The default spindle that the MASLOW 4 CNC was designed for is the DEWALT DW611, which is a popular trim router used in a lot of benchtop CNC routers. However it's not designed for extended use in CNC routers. It's designed for short term use hand routing trim on countertops, etc. It's a brushed motor, so the brushes will wear out and need to be replaced. The bearings aren't designed for continuous use, and it is loud compared to a real brushless CNC spindle.
The DEWALT DW611 has a spindle diameter of 69mm. That means the MASLOW 4 CNC can fit a max spindle diameter of 69mm. The alternate spindle motor must be 69mm or smaller in diameter.
There are air cooled and water cooled spindles. Water cooled spindles a have the best cooling capability, and therefore longer lifespan of the bearing and motor. However, water cooling is i
There are 3 phase, brushless, 1.5KW spindle motors that measure 65mm in diameter. These will require a spacer adapter of 2mm wall thickness to increase the diameter to 69mm to fit the MASLOW 4 CNC router clamp. A simple 3D printed spacer should work perfectly to adapt this spindle to the MASLOW 4.
WHERE TO BUY:
QNK CNC Spindle Motor, 1.5KW Air Cooled Spindle Motor 65mm 110V ER11 24000RPM, High Speed 10A 400Hz Air Cooled Round for CNC Router Engraver Milling Machine
A VFD is needed to power the 3 phase spindle motor and control the speed. The VFD converts 110/120V AC power to 3 phase power used by the spindle motor.
WHERE TO BUY:
QNK 1.5KW 2HP 110V AC 14A VFD Converter Single to 3 Phase Inverter Variable Frequency Drive CNC Spindle Motor Speed Controller
There's a package bundle deal available for the motor and VFD speed controller.
